I'm Mikhaila and I was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma (skin cancer) aged 19.
My favourite Teens Unite memory is the formal dinner at the Reunion Stay. After the meal, we went back to the common room, whipped out the speakers and put on a party playlist. We danced our hearts out together! It was the best night.
If you're a young person fighting cancer, I would say to give yourself credit for your small victories. You may feel like life has slowed down, but don't worry about the fact the world is still moving on around you. Life isn't a race and you will be a stronger, more resilient and empathetic person as a result of your struggles.
As a Brand & Marketing Representative I work closely with the Brand and Marketing team to ensure Teens Unite’s messaging across printed materials and digital is consistent and engaging for young people. I help to review new marketing materials and identify opportunities, awareness days, and fundraising opportunities.
A fun fact about me - I'm not a natural redhead.
I needed help and that's where Teens Unite came in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason I met Teens Unite was to save my life.
With Teens Unite, I finally realised that I could climb out of this massive hole that I had been digging because I wasn't alone anymore.
If it wasn't for Teens Unite, I wouldn't be where I am now. They have been really supportive and given me the strength to push myself and not give up.
Volunteering with Teens Unite has changed my personality and outlook on life. When I hear all the amazing things the teens say about Teens Unite, I can tell they mean every word.
Teens Unite isn't just a charity to me, it was the beginning of restarting my life.
When Elliot started receiving the support of Teens Unite, I could see a change in him straightaway. His outlook on life was becoming positive again and I gained strength from seeing my little boy accepting what had happened and starting to move forward.
